The NVC Eureka Aklan (B) bagged a total of nine medals: 2 golds, 3 silvers, and 4 bronzes during the recently concluded Regional Invitational Arnis Tournament held on August 25-26, 2024 at CityMall Roxas Avenue, Roxas City. Competing with exceptional participating schools from across Region VI, the NVC representatives victoriously secured shining medals in the tournament.
Vince Mariano, a 1st year Hospitality Management student garnered 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals in the tournament. Jin Irish Zaballero and John Emmanuel S. Chavez, who are 2nd year BS Criminology students, both won a silver medal in the said tournament. While Kneeza A. Reprado, a 3rd year BS Criminology student along with Sandy D. Mateo and John Angelo Colangoy, both 2nd year BS Criminology students, brought home a bronze medal.
According to the players, they didn’t really expect to win in the tournament due to the opposition’s bold aura. ”Owa man jud ko ga expect nga magdaog kase mabaskog man do uban nga team," said Sandy Mateo. But they also told that they didn’t presume to lose either. “I don’t expect na makakuha ako ng gold and I don’t expect to lose either, I just ano lang sa, fifty-fifty lang," added John Emmanuel Chavez.
It is remembered that Arnis in NVC was only organized in the year 2023 but the school had already proved its prowess in the said field in producing multi-awarding student players within just one year. “First year ito nila na nag compete, may ano na, may mga awards na eh, may potential talaga, "Arnis coach, Mr. Alejandro Arca stated. “Kase ano eh, kahit one year palang, may product na," he added.
The players mentioned that their coach’s way of training them had led them to success.
Even though most of the players are new in the field of Arnis, they all displayed skills and determination in the pursuit of excellence that made them worthy of winning in the country’s traditional martial art competition.
As for now, the players are eager to compete again in future Arnis Tournaments while firmly believing to bring gold medals in Aklan. “Syempre makauli it gold diri sa Aklan," Kneeza Reprado confidently stated.
Bringing the name of the school, Eureka Aklan (B) proudly proved that in NVC, YOU are the star and YOU hold the spotlight.
